In the words of Jackson, 2 1/2:
Dear God,
Thank you for my mommy, my daddy, my baby boy, my Oma, my juice, my Belly, my playset, Cooper, Mr. Pauls, my food, my toys and my poopoo prize.
Aaaaaa-men!

The last day of Winter
On Monday,we bid farewell to the winter season by spending 95% of our day outside in the 80-degree sunshine.
We spent the morning at the zoo with our neighbor Andrea & her little girl Anna.

After disco-naps, the boys were eager-beaver to play outside, and Jackson even requested I get out the water hose. You don't have to ask me twice. We all ended up soaking wet and Bella even got a bath.

Shortly after, I hear Jackson calling for me from the slide. I look up and this is what I see:

Weston was a bit young to be part of the hose fun so after his messy teething cookie, we made him a redneck hot tub in the water table. He was full of compliments on his makeshift pool.

Then some nudie snack time.

We are so glad spring is here! But if the balmy mid-March weather is any indication, it's going to be a HOT summer!

Two peas in a pod

Jackson, being aware of how much I enjoyed seeing him crawl into his brother's crib a few weeks back, has taken to climbing in there any chance he gets.
Last week, he noticed that I as changing Weston, so he stripped down to his own pull-up and requested that Baby Boy come "play in his diaper". Not sure where he got the idea for nudey wrestling, but we'll try it.

Making progress...
This week, we finally had a potty-training break through. We've been fairly successful at peeing in the potty for the past week & Jackson has even woken up in the AM completely dry the past several mornings. We've had accidents of course, but 9 out of 10 times, he'll stay dry.
Going #2 in the potty is a different story. After dirtying 2 pairs of big boy underwear out of pure stubbornness, Ben promised Jackson a "big party with presents" if he pooped in the potty. Still no luck. But when I showed him the Costco size pack of big boy Star Wars underwear that he didn't get to wear until he pooped in the potty, Pavlov's theory finally proved to be true. Post-nap, he rushed to the potty and strained his little heart out to produce the tiniest little poo I have ever seen. But poop is poop & he was so proud of himself and his new underwear.

(Weston was there for moral support and had a front row seat for all the action.)
Fast forward three days...no more pooping in the potty and several accidents on the Jedis. Despite the lure of new presents that he can easily acquire just by pooping in the potty, he is holding strong. But thankfully forward progress has been made so we are on the right track.

75%
For the past two weeks, both boys have had some runny noses & coughs here & there. But I didn't really think much of it...until Westie woke up Thursday afternoon with his eyes crusted shut.
I jumped online & quickly self-diagnosed him with an ear infection. It was news to me that ear infections can cause eye pucky, but I knew it wasn't pink eye and a clogged tear duct was unlikely since he's not a newbie.
After un-gluing his eyelashes on Friday morning, I ventured the treacherous waters of taking two kids to the doctor single-handedly. I didn't have anyone to watch J so I figured they could give him a once-over while we were there. {Flashback to Weston's new baby dr appointment aka the only other time I've taken them both to the doctor: Jackson was licking the window in the lobby. Literally.}
My suspicions were correct -- Weston did have an ear infection. And lucky for Jackson that he got to come along for the ride, because BOTH of his ears were infected. Yes, between the two of them, we had 3 ear infections.
Considering its March & this is the first sick visit we've had to the doctor since last Spring, I really can't complain.

Afternoon Monster
Recently, Jackson has been having tantrums when he wakes up from his afternoon nap. He's like a little monster. Screaming, crying, pretty much flipping out for anywhere from 20 minute to an hour. He wakes up screaming, and when I get to his room, he doesn't want me to touch him, then wants me to carry him, then tells me to stand up, then sit down, then starts faking a cough and starts choking because he's crying so hard. And on & on. Total mess. So bad that I dread his naps.
And some days, he doesn't fake a cough. Instead, he starts moaning about his tummy hurting, or his ears, or whatever he thinks will garner the most sympathy. Followed by his pleas for medicine. And them I'm caught between whether or not to believe him. The first few times, I fell for it and the minute he got a cough drop in his mouth, he flipped the switch from monster to angel. But other times, I can't tell if he's crying wolf or not....?
Does anyone else have experience with this craziness? There is no rhyme or reason to his post-nap tantrums. I've tried to pinpoint is it short vs long naps? How well he ate at lunch? What time he went down?
In the little bit of research I've done, there is sleep disorder called sleep inertia, where the body physically wakes up before the brain does. So you're caught between being awake & asleep. He seems to fit the bill for the symptoms and hopefully its just something he'll outgrow eventually.

The Talbert Boys
As much fun as I'm having with my two little boys, I can only imagine the joy & laughs my mother-in-law Lill had when Ben & Jon were little. I've heard all the stories of how Ben crawled up the cabinets & ate all the Flintstone vitamins and pooped a rainbow for days. And how the boys, at the ripe old ages of 4 & 6, managed to crawl into the car Dukes of Hazzard style, knock it into gear & roll it down the street and crash into a tree. And now that I have my own set of Talbert Boys, I know I will have my fair share of tales to pass along.
But for now, the mischief is pretty limited. Most of my great joy comes from watching these two brothers love each other and make each other laugh.
Kicking off Round 2 of Potty-training by sporting the Pull-Up conehead look. Jackson's digging it; Westie's not so sure....in fact, I'm pretty sure Westie's saying, "Really Mom? We've tried this before and he peed ALL OVER the house. Again? Really?"

Double-duty bathtime. Check out that belly on Westie. "Chubby baby" as J says.

Boy time on the couch when Daddy gets home from work.

Weston helping supervise Jackson as he masters a new feature at the park.

Weston woke up from his morning nap crying, then got really quiet....this is what I found when I went in to check on him. Not only did Jackson crawl into his crib but he also set up the mobile so they'd have some entertainment. I love how they love each other.

Rooting for the Wolfpack on Saturday.

This is how we roll...
Cruisin' around Bi-Lo with Baby Joey riding shot-gun. Buckled in, no less. And stopping to smell the flowers!

All sprawled out in the high chair, munching on a rice cracker. What's up, homies?

Rockin' a brave face at the dentist. Jackson willingly laid back and let them clean and floss his pearly whites.

Totally pimping out the flight jacket that Uncle Jon sent. It looks especially rad with the windpants & orange goggles.

Taken' it to the house with a teething biscuit & some yogurt. Followed by a sink bath, complete with a basin full of dirty pots & pans right next door. We keep it classy.

Running around Target in superhero get up, instigated by Ben.

Briefing himself on Biscuit's latest escapes on our way to meet Ben for lunch. Love how his leg is crossed :)

Post-nap, I go in to find Jackson in a "matching outfit", complete with a fresh diaper. If this child can rifle through his drawers, select matching clothes, un-dress, then change pull-ups, and redress...I do believe he is capable of potty skills.

Yet another after-market deck accessory. It wasn't long ago that Ben was making fun of me when I said I liked to play tether ball. (Yes, he managed to regurgitate multiple Napoleon jokes) Fast forward to this weekend and the new tennis ball that now hangs down from the pergola. Played by 1, it is simply a way to practice tennis swings and returns. Played by 2 or more, it becomes more of a tether ball type game,,,,and as it turns out, I'm not the only on one who likes tether ball.

Fabric-covered Containers
As part of my sewing bug, I've been experimenting with some small projects to help accomplish my never-ending strife to get & stay organized.
As part of my "Fun Container" collection, I had several cylindrical containers that I was trying to come up with something fun to do with. I spray-painted them with black chalkboard paint, then sewed slip-covers to go around them. Instant storage for paint brushes, color pencils & markers. I easily labeled the lids using chalk. And can quickly erase & relabel if the contents change.

I also covered a corrugated stationary box with fabric and attached a small wooden square that was also painted with chalkboard paint. Viola! Instant storage for our playdough cans.

I'm on the prowl for more bland containers & boxes to cover. Isn't organizing much more fun when its pretty??

Baby Quilts
One of my favorite outlets for stress relief is "arts & crafts" as Ben calls it. I really enjoy coming up with crafty projects & sewing in general. However, with two little ones, my "me-time" is few & far between. And when I do get an hour here or there, or the occasional evening when the kiddos are in bed & Ben is tinkering in the man-cave, I like a project that I can complete in that time frame. Instant gratification.
Recently, I found a couple quilt kits that were from my Fabric Editions days. These kits include pre-coordinated fabrics in cotton, flannel, satin & plush to create a cute baby blanket.

I had intentions of making these for the boys back when each was born but that obviously never happened. So I decided to dust off my sewing machine & make it happen.
I started with Weston's, which took me about 3 hours on Saturday evening to complete. Its pretty small (30x36) but perfect for him to play on now & eventually drag around. Though not perfect, I was pleased at how it turned out.

I didn't plan on making Jackson's until a later date but once he caught wind of Westie's new blanket, he wouldn't stop asking me where his new blanket was...over & over again. So while he was at school on Tuesday, I made him one. Since he's bigger, I modified the pattern & made it a good bit larger by adding fabric from my stash and using a different flannel print for the backing. Once again, not perfect but it did look more square after I pressed it again. But not bad for a few hours work.

My sewing goes in phases; I'll be super-sewing-girl for a few weeks then take a hiatus for a while. So now that I'm back at it, I need some project ideas. Suggestions??
